The following publications talk about issues directly affecting video professionals. We hope you will find them useful.

Sample Corporate Proposal/Contract

At a recent PVNB Roundtable discussion on corporate proposals and pricing, guest Craig Scheiner was generous enough to share some of his findings and pricing strategies.

Digital 101 Handbook

JVC's Northern California Sales Manager, Brian Rutz, was kind enough to spend an evening recently, sharing his knowledge of digital formats, what makes them different, and what we as video producers need to know in order to make informed decisions about digital gear. He has graciously provided the hardcopy form of his presentation to us in PDF format for those who missed the meeting.

Sales Tax Regulation 1529. Motion Pictures

Most event video work is taxable, according to the California Board of Equalization. Complete text of Regulation 1529 is available for download in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

Sales Tax Exemption for Production Equipment

Effective January 1, 1999, the California State Board of Equalization granted a 5% sales tax exemption on the purchase of teleproduction and postproduction equipment by those individuals and businesses “primarily engaged” in the business of teleproduction as defined by the NAIC. Complete text of Regulation 1532 and the accompanying exemption form are available for download directly from the BOE website in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.

Resale Certificate

Those businesses buying goods for resale are required to submit a Resale Certificate to each supplier of goods in order to be exempted from paying sales tax on them. You must already have a Reseller's Permit in order to use this form.
